Scouts' Fitness Challenge - Cycling Dates

On your bike!

Fitness ChallengeOne of the Scouts' Challenge Badges is the Fitness Challenge. Earlier in the year we introducted the Scouts to the requirements for the challenge and conducted several different tests to measure their fitness.

One part of the challenge is to increase their fitness over a period of three months. This can be done through any sports that the Scout is interested in.

We have a number of keen cyclists in the Troop and therefore we thought it would be a good idea to run a series of cycle rides, which become increasingly difficult.

The first ride took place on 22nd May and was a meagre 12 miles. The route took us from Stoneleigh, through West Ewell and Chessington and then on to Ashtead Common. The Scouts all coped extremely well, although some of the Leaders realised they aren't quite as fit as they used to be!

The second ride took place on 18th June, which you may recall was one of the hottest days of the year so far! This time the route took us from near Tyrell's Wood golf course, across to Box Hill, Up Box Hill, across to Headley and back via Walton on the Hill. Most of the route was off road, which was great fun, but very hard work.
