Scout Summer Camp 2009 - Christchurch

Friday 24th July saw 4 leaders and 11 scouts leave the Church for Braggers Wood ArcheryScout Camp near Christchurch. We were later joined by another 5. Saturday started with a visit to the site archery range. Then we were off to Monkey World - a sanctuary forRing tailed lemur at Monkey World monkeys rescued from dire unnatural conditions.

Sunday dawned overcast and windy, but the weather held as we did a 12km hike, followed by a visit to a local swimming pool.

Monday saw us sea fishing off Mudeford in choppy seas. One boat caught 4 fish and the other 21, so we had enough to eat for dinner. On the hikeThanks to Will for showing us how to gut the fish. Arriving back at site, the afternoon was spent competing in Mini Olympics (spacehopper racing, throwing the spacehopper, discus - better known as a large Frisby and others). In the evening it was off to the cinema to see Transformers.

Tuesday morning saw us on site doing pioneering, with one group making a swing and the other a seesaw. Then it was off to Christchurch for sailing. We had done this at the last two summer camps, with little breeze. This time however it was very breezy, Rigging the boatsleading to some exciting moments and the odd capsize. A late finish at sailing saw us having a B-B-Q.

Wednesday saw us off to Brockenhurst for a cycle ride of about 20 miles in the New Forest. In the evening we went slot car racing at Ringwood (basically 8 lane Scaletrix), and a very noisy evening it was. Congratulations to the winning Slot car racingteam of Alex and Ben.

Thursday was "whoppee" day, with a visit to Tower Park leisure complex at Poole. Here we did ten pin bowling, Phaserdome and Splashdown, a water park. We went back via Tescos, where the patrols bought their evening meal and then returned to site to cook it.

Suddenly the week had gone, and Friday saw us packing up camp in good weather and heading back to Stoneleigh. Congratulations to the winning patrol of Falcons (Will, Ellen, Emily and Ben) in the points competition, and thanks to Ian, Gavin and Elliot for their help in running the camp.
